The Historical and Political Significance of Building a Mosque at Ground Zero

For Those Who Forgot



On September 11, 2001 at 8:45 a.m. the world learned of a passenger airliner crashing into the side of the North Tower at the World Trade Center in New York City . News reports showed the immediate aftermath and effects of the crash. We later learned that American Airlines Flight 11, a Boeing 767-223ER, carrying 81 passengers, nine flight attendants and two pilots, flying at a speed of 490 miles per hour, struck one of the world’s tallest buildings, impacting at the 92nd to 98th floors.



I think it is safe to say that like me, most people had the initial thoughts that this event was some sort of tragic accident in the initial moments of news reports. Denial is often the first stage of dealing with such traumatic events.
