Take a 5 million dollar a year business and run it into the ground in exactly 7 years. Yes it can be done. Very Sad. The old owner wanted to take it back over but Mr Dickhead refused. Pardon my language but many of us poured our heart and soul into this and he just declares bankruptcy and screws them all.

I'm sorry Fishy.
ReplyDeleteSo sad Sandra.Thanks
ReplyDeleteI know you busted your butt for those people Fishy..... sorry
ReplyDeleteLuckily I don't have to have the job, but a bunch of people that depended on him got hung out to dry. I just got a call from one of them and they think Merritt Island will close in less than a week. Now his whole family has nothing. Except what he managed to hide away over the last few years. I have no problem with making a profit but screwing over a lot of good people is out of line.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys I just needed to vent.
I don't know the whole story but about the time this guy took over the idea of "Entrepreneurs" was to build a 5 year plan that goes like this.
ReplyDeleteInvest enough capital to build improve the business for a 3 year run...build it..sell it and be gone by year 5.
Looks like Mr. Smarty Pants got caught in the down turn.
I am sorry to hear about yours and others plight. Hopefully through your contacts you can find something and help the others as well. There are some Brevard County Agencies that are successful in finding jobs for the 7,000 laid off Shuttle (USA) workers. There are 3 new companies moving into the Melbourne Airport area that are offering good starting salaries and benefits. They are Defense and Aircraft related. From memory they are: AAR (part of the old "Blackwater" Group. Hiring 150 employees to recondition military aircraft and build new weapons systems. Mid-Air, Aircraft Maintenance and Refurb. of large jets and one Embraer Air, a Brazilian Aircraft builder.
ReplyDeleteI am curious as to why the previous owner was not able to buy him out. I would like to know more about this business. Please get my email address from from Grumpy, so we can correspond.
I smell something Fishy here and it smells like m o n e y!
More workers will be laid off at Boeing in August, which has direct impact on all businesses. Doctors are feeling the pinch since losing jobs and health insurance means less trips to the doctor.SOL mentions the two new companies. Helicopter repair is specialized and I hope will help returning soldiers from Iraq who are Brevard residents come home to a place with a job. the bigger picture to me is why Brevard not attract more high tech industries all along.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the third company, but the Brevard County Economic Counsel headed by Linda Weatherman has been out there beating the bushes to bring more business here for years. I believe that she was instrumental in the AAR move. You might contact her office by Googling the name above.
ReplyDeleteThere has been some talk about sending a "Consortium" of Brevard leaders (if we can actually find one) to fly up to Wisconsin and Illinois to solicit companies like Caterpillar and Harley Davidson to move to Brevard. I am sure they would like to leave the political, regulatory and tax climates of Wisconsin etc., for the much warmer business climates of Florida.
From what Grumpy tells me, maybe you should be in the Consortium.
Thanks you for the compliment SOL. In my younger days I would have enjoyed that. Mr Fishy is getting close to retirement and he wants me to stay home and play with him. I think I need a part time gig so I don't wind up in the county jail :)
ReplyDeleteSOL - I am familiar with Linda Weatherman and I am not criticizing her, but she's been at it for decades now with some success. We have port, I thought it was able to transport commodities, we have had engineers, scientists, and other tech saavy folk (hope there are still some hanging around), all the support talent, we have a solar center (still there I wonder?), we should have been able to create some other non-NASA dependent sector other than boating, hotels, and tourism. I just don't understand what needed to happen that didn't.
ReplyDeleteHeck SOL maybe you ought to fly to Wisconsin and Illinois and sell them on Brevard. I have no idea if they are expanding or not.
Sandra, one thi I suggested to SOL he could replace the EDC on a commission basis... New York and Jersey are full of businesses looking to move... No one sane wants to deal with taxes and regulations anywhere up there.
