District 9 - From Outer Space...

Okay, I wrote this at the end of 2009.  But I'm trying to save my favorite posts from by-gone days away from where they 'used to be', and hoped to re-post it here just so we could all live the magic of November 2009 'one more time'.

The scary thing is that not much has changed over the past 15 months since I wrote it.  The Republicans have taken the House, but as my old boss used to say:  "What have you done for me lately?"

How much has changed since 2009?  Read on, I'll let you be the judge...  Anyone been checking up on Recovery.gov lately?

By most accounts, the worst movie ever made (in the history of 'making movies') was "Plan 9 From Outer Space".  The budget for the film was equivalent roughly to the cost of a six-pack of Dr Pepper and a bologna sandwich.  The film's star, Bela Lugosi, died shortly after filming began (his role was subsequently played by...  his Dentist), and Ed Wood racked up yet another in a long-series of films destined to be Cult Films not for their 'coolness', but rather, because they were simply so horrible...

Quoting the movie poster above, the viewer could expect to see:

"Unspeakable horrors from outer space paralyze the living, and resurrect the dead!"
Flash forward 51 years to the present.  We no longer have a problem with 'Plans' but we do, apparently have an issue with 'Districts'...

The dead on Earth remain pretty much 'dead' (except in Chicago, of course), but the rest of us, well, perhaps we actually ARE paralyzed (since we're not out shouting in the streets).

Remember when President Obama turned management of the www.recovery.gov site (hey, what's that web number again?") to the capable hands of, Joe 'Fiscal Hawk' Biden?  Well, I do.  (UPDATE:  Not only does the buck NOT stop with Joe Biden, he doesn't know the buck is coming.  Keep reading...)

ABC News reported that inspection of the Recovery.gov site produced some surprising results.  Specifically, the Stimulus Bill adopted by Congress and signed by President Obama, which created 'or saved' jobs in many, many districts.  Unfortunately for us, some of these districts do not exist on Earth (perhaps, in 'Outer Space'?).

While I'm not ruling out the possibility of extraterrestrial job creation or perhaps some sort of 'mind control', I am leaning more toward the possibility that once again our elected officials have done what they excel at...  They have proven themselves again to be incompetent beyond belief.

Say it with me now...  "I believe!"

According to House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., "The
inaccuracies on recovery.gov that have come to light are outrageous and the Administration owes itself, the Congress, and every American a commitment to work night and day to correct the ludicrous mistakes.  Credibility counts in government and stupid mistakes like this undermine it. We've got too many serious problems in this country to let that happen."

"Whether the numbers are good news or bad news, I want the honest numbers and I want them now," Obey continued.  (Moos note:  'Obey', is that a GREAT name, or what?)

The revelation about job creation in phantom districts comes in advance of a Thursday hearing in front of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, where Earl Devaney, chairman of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, can expect sharp questions from
Republicans who have been critical of the administration's job-creation statistics

And what does Joe Biden say about this situation (which he was tasked by President Obama with monitoring in the first place)?  "WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. Vice President Joe Biden
has asked a government Web site to correct statistics indicating stimulus funds have gone to non-existent congressional districts."
Okay...  So Joe Biden is asking for the non-existent congressional districts to be 'fixed'.

Excellent, thanks Joe, well done!

Other feedback on the situation?  "Edward DeSeve, a special adviser on the stimulus bill, said the mistakes that showed jobs created or saved in non-existent congressional districts were "silly" and "frustrating," but added "transparency is going to be messy.""

For more on this, click HERE

Let me write these down so I don't forget (so I can use them later in life with MY boss):
Jobs created or saved in non-existent congressional districts were 'silly' and 'frustrating'?

And,

"Transparency is going to be messy?"

Actually Mr. DeSeve (how ironic is this man's last name?  Go ahead, read it out loud), getting caught 'cooking the books' has GOT to be frustrating for you, but I don't believe the word 'silly' applies anywhere in a paragraph regarding this fiscal malfeasance and defrauding of the American people.

I do, however, agree that 'transparency is going to be messy' for this administration in the months to come.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, well, you know how it goes...

At last glance, Bela Lugosi is still dead, the Health Care Law is still alive (while not exactly 'Constitutional').

Sleep with one eye open folks, while the original Dracula is gone, blood-suckers still roam the night...

And they have an insatiable hunger for that which is not theirs - yet.

Pass the garlic...  Please?

  2. Two decades ago, it was no-show jobs, today it is non-existent congressional districts. You’re right Grumpy, not much has changed.

Great post by the way. Totally enjoy it.
