What I was planning on writing this afternoon changed when Federal Judge Susan Bolton effectively gutted Arizona SB 1070. I was planning on taking an opportunity see what readers of the Arizona Republic were saying about the law. Like the Gannet Sites here in Florida the reader comments are interesting, insightful and opinionated. They also represent an indication of what voters, reader commenter's on political commentary are usually informed and the most likely of likely voters to vote.
Instead of a cross section from several stories I'm going to post the 20 or so reactions from Arizona Republic readers
First: The law will go into affect tomorrow minus some key features according to the Arizona Republic, according to this story Arizona immigration law: Key parts struck down by judge. Missing will be
The portion of the law that requires an officer make a reasonable attempt to determine the immigration status of a person stopped, detained or arrested if there's reasonable suspicion they're in the country illegally.
• The portion that creates a crime of failure to apply for or carry "alien-registration papers."
• The portion that makes it a crime for illegal immigrants to solicit, apply for or perform work. (This does not include the section on day laborers.)
• The portion that allows for a warrantless arrest of a person where there is probable cause to believe they have committed a public offense that makes them removable from the United States.
Here we go, this is going to be a thousand comment story for the Republic.. I'll stop when enough comments are in for you to judge

I have no idea how many comments are on this story as of now. It doesn't look like Susan Bolton is going to be getting any party or dinner invitations from the legal citizens of Arizona anytime soon. This story is already approaching a 1000 comments, it's only a few hours old and people in Arizona are still working. It should get heated when they get home have a beer and get madder,
Kinda figure the tone is now very well defined, and the line in the sand is set in concrete. So let me get this correct. 92% of all Black voters voting Democratic, + 42% of all White voters voting Democratic gave barry a 52.7% majority in November of 2008. I doubt seriously if 98% of Black voters + 18% of White voters will be enough to continue the charade. I actually think the Black vote will now be closer to the historic 72% they used to get. Hey fat Lady do you sing requests? If so, how about "Crazy" or "Everybodys Somebodies Fool"?

ReplyDeleteNothing in the United State Constitution says anything about American Citizens having to surrender the Sovereignty of the United States or their individual State to an army of Gangs, Smugglers, Gun Runners, Coyotes and infiltrators.
I still think a better approach is to find illegals through the employers. That would root out hundreds of them and get them deported, although I understand the deportation process is way behind schedule due to the volume of those getting caught. And fine the employers the way the law requires!
ReplyDeleteYoung Lady - E-Check is supposed to verify legal status. I also am for eliminating the carrots of employment, HC, education, and all other tax payer supported services for any illegals. Those Mapquest or Yahoo maps also have reverse directions home. If no incentives to stay, they will leave.
ReplyDeleteOnce again it hasn't worked. Employers have supposed to been supposed to be checking status since the Reagan Amnesty. Also found it interesting that Bolton upheld the employer mandate, while striking the provision against illegals seeking work, including the one that said they couldn't block traffic to do it.
