Thinking about the Sherrod affair

I'm going to stick my nose into an issue that never should have been an issue to begin with,  Like it or not, and I don't,  I need to comment about it now, more about that a little later.

I forget where and when I saw the first headline about Shirley Sherrod.  I remember that by the second paragraph I'd decided the entire thing was absurd. In a speech a few months ago a woman mentions she acted in a way some folks might consider insensitive.. a generation ago.. and suddenly it's a headline.  What the ------?  I didn't finish the story.. I didn't watch the video clip.. I didn't even notice that Andew Brietbart's Big Journalism was behind it.

Shirley Sherwood

If we start filling the headlines with accounts of relatively minor politically incorrect actions commited by ordinary citizens over the last generation we wouldn't get any real news.  At least that's what I thought about the incident then.... That was before FOX, The Mainstream Media, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack and the NAACP all lost whatever collective sanity they had over the matter and an anecdotal story actually became news, not because of  the story value, but because of the insanity that followed.   I was thinking that, before the President made himself an international laughingstock over the incident..  I was thinking that about the time Shirley Sherrod was forced to resign for sharing an incident that happened years before.

Shirley Sherrod had commited the ultimate crime..  overworked and under pressure she'd allowed race to have some affect on her priorities...

Note.. Whoever decided to make a mountian out of this mole hill needs to spend a couple days at any Maryland Motor Vehicle branch

A day or so later we find out the Brietbart's people had used an edited version of the clip..  Suddenly FOX, the MSM and everyone else were tripping over themselves trying to undo what they shouldn't have been dumb enough to do to start with.  It would have been almost funny if a persons life hadn't been screwed up because of the idiocy.  The White House reaction made editorial news all over the world.  Take a couple minutes and read this piece Race to judgment  published in Al Jazeera, There were similar articles in the Jeruselem Post and the Moscow Times..  Great for our national image.

Closer to home, a Florida Today poster made comments about the more conservative FT Bloggers dragging poor Sherrod's name through the mud.. I'm one of the more conservative bloggers on Florida Today, so it stands to reason he was including me in his all encompassing statement..  The only comment I made about the stupidity was to point out the Al Jareera piece to another blogger.  I didn't see any other FT blog authors dragging Shirley Sherrod through the mud either.

The Administration, the media and Florida Today's less than truthful blogger are all too aware, that in this country, an accusation of racism doesn't have to be supported by fact or evidence of any kind.  A simple accusation was  enough to cause a panic reaction by the administration and a media feeding frenzy.  Funny that when it involves someone like Eric Holder, then there's a news blackout.

On the surface the FT Blogger and Andrew Brietbart seem to have something in common, neither are opposed to the malicious use of the race card. Some of Obama's best media friends have gotten good at playing the race card..  I'm hearing stories that featured writers like Ezra Klien and Paul Krugmann who write for for major media outlets like the Washington Post formed a club...  among their goals was to promote the progressive left by slamming conservatives..  the tool of choice... the race card.

Reacting irrationally every time someone mentions the word racist needs to stop.  So does it's malicious and slanderous use.

  1. Simply going to the diversionary tactice way too early. That pretty much means the Far Lady is warming up. Can't blame them though. Would you want the populace to be thinking only of the issues. What a CF of inept leadership. and governance.

  2. Grumpy,

I agree with your conclusion but disagree with your arguments getting there.

  3. Aquagrump; Looks like you aren't the only one that didn't like my thought process... This didn't last three hours on Florida Today. It wasn't retired.. It's gone..

Back on topic... You have to concede, if a major Islamic news site and a major Israeli news site reach the same conclusions on anything.. it's worth thinking about.

  4. I followed the "read more" because it was "there." I see that your FT post was removed and now you have your own "home" for blogging. Congratulations! I'll stop by again.

Sorry, though, Sherrod is last week's story and I give it a huge "yawn" this morning. How Islamic or Israeli news frame a U.S. story is irrelevant, in my view. They are as subject to the entertainment value as our news outlets. The facts of the matter are what matters.

  5. I also think Sherrod is old news, but I agree that decisions (by a fed director) should never be made hastily - not even having talked to Ms. Sherrod! Everyone but her came out looking like a total idiot. It's like the recent cartoon called Racial Dialogue - "You're racist!" - "No, you're racist!" - "No, you're racist!" ad nauseum - did not, did too, did not....

  6. So over on Florida Today there's a big article about the Tea Party. The comments are just ridiculous..craziness. (By the way, BWBS has simply gone round the bend...he's become the same kind of annoyance as Antagonist, where you just skip over his rants because they have ceased to make sense.) My point...it's the political crazy season, so we should expect the cries of racism, socialism, cronyism, etc to get worse and worse until november. I think this year I might have to unplug both the TV and the computer :-) Meanwhile, the republic marches on...

    (or stumbles)

Idiot, Brietbart mucked up the Sherrod thing.. he lost a lot of respect from me doing it. On the other hand, no one has claimed the 100 grand he offered for proof of the acussations made by Democrats at the Capitol Hill TEA Party.. If he's right about Erza Klien and friends, and that gets exposed publicly it might go a long way towards slowing down the racist name calling BS.

You and I disagree all the time, I've watched you debate many other people. I've never seen you play the race card or resort to name calling.

  8. Old Lady.. Didn't forget you, hopefully this afternoon

Back on topic; The entire thing was bull, it should never have been news. Yes Sherrod is old news, what needs to be current news is way people reacted.. and the way people misused the situation. We don't need repeat performances.

DFTTS.. Glad you followed the link... I've had so many FT blogs removed by non- FT censors (as happened last night) I may do more of the links.. I also put a link to here on my FT Blog Roll, so you and others can find your way here.. if a blog gets poofed on FT.. I can also restrict who posts here.

When Moscow, Islam and and Israel find something to agree on, and that something happens to be Gaffle on our part.. It does our prestige no good.

Excuse me Mr. Grumpy sir. Is this a place of free speech? Not like FT with censors and post terrorists?

Great posts and comments. It's been a full moon lately, so I'm real busy battling with some MoonBats of my own (I live with one).

Moonbat Lesson for the week: They want what they want and they want it now and don't care how much it costs or who pays for it. She will either drive me to bankruptcy or back to those "meetings".

    Thanks for the venue.

Good to see you, stop by more often.. Idiots been asking about you.. She said BWBS had lost it.. she's looking for a more rational conservative to beat up on... make that slightly more rational...

As far as your Moon Bat.. wheter she drives you to bankrupcy or back those meetings... I'd be willing to bet it was her idea.
