The National Anthem-- Banned

This caught me by surprise,

Mennonites have always been opposed to violence-- and the idea of killing, even in self defense is more repulsive to them than it is to most people..

However this is the first time of heard of it going this far..  Many of them have served our country honorably, in combat as unarmed medics, the never expected their status as Conscientious Objectors to keep them out of harms way..  For that reason I've always respected them, and their patriotism

They, or at least some of them seem to have had a change of heart.  Do they not realize that without our occasional use of violence, America's enemies would destroy us.  In short order, they and their religion wouldn't even be a footnote in the history books the conquerors would write.

Tiny Goshen College in Indiana has banned the "The Star Spangled Banner: at all sporting events because the Mennonite school's president considers the National Anthem's words to be too violent.
The 1,000-student school had already banned the words last year, but the band could still play the music for patriots in attendance. Now, the school has banned the song entirely, according to NBC Sports.
The school’s board of directors told college President Jim Brenneman to “find an alternative to playing the National Anthem that fits with sports tradition, that honors country and that resonates with Goshen College’s core values and respects the views of diverse constituencies.”
Brenneman was okay with that.

  2. Once again we have religion dictating. I believe in God and I'm not against religion per say but this makes them no different then saying you have to cover your head if you are a woman.

the national anthem doesn't fit w/ their sports tradition?!?!...1 question: do they play football? that's one of the most bloodthirsty, pitiless, homicidal "sport" on the planet...& many of the coaches use that approach to win...at any cost! alphamom/mariaanne
