Waiving The Weiner

Anthony Weiner, D, NY is on record saying he fully supports the 2010 Health Care legislation rammed through the House and Senate by Democrats and President Obama signed into law last year.

Super!  Way to go Sparky!

At least we know where you stand...

The following is excerpted from an article on ForestHillsPatch.com from January, 2011:

"Republicans want another debate about health care reform? Well, so should Democrats. They beat us in round one with lies and scare tactics — we welcome a second shot," Weiner said. "By planning to introduce a bill to repeal health care reform the first week of the 112th Congress, Republicans have made it very clear what direction they intend to take the country — backwards."

Health care reform became an issue during Weiner's own reelection campaign in the fall thanks to his first contested election since 2004. Weiner's opponent, businessman Bob Turner, was adamant that the 112th Congress should work to repeal the health care reform package.

...

"Republicans are against a lot of things, but they are for kicking young Americans off their parents' insurance plans, for reinstating copayments for preventive measures like cancer screenings, and for denying children coverage based on preexisting conditions," Weiner said. "This is a dangerously misguided interpretation of what Americans voted for in November."

...

Jump ahead to March 15th, 2011 for this interview with Politico.com:

From the above video:
“Look, we tried the hiding-under-our-desk strategy on this issue during campaign 2010. Too many candidates who did that lost,” Weiner said in an interview for the POLITICO series “Health Care Reform: One Year Later.”

The better strategy, he said, is a “leaning into it” approach, which recognizes that Republicans will force the issue and that voters will want to hear about it.

Fast Forwarding one week...
Clouds fly by quickly from left to right as we flash forward from last week to early this week...
(Try not to get motion sick - 'Cookie Tossin' is NOT covered under Obama Care)

Let us re-visit Anthony Weiner, D, NY, Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011 once again speaking with the nice folks at Politico.com:

The congressman was trying to debunk Republican “myths” about the health care law during a speech at the Center for American Progress. He used the waivers as way to describe how flexible the law actually is and how “this notion that the government is shoving the bill down people’s throats” is not true.

“The administration needs to make this argument more forcefully,” he said. “A lot of people who got waivers were … people who are our friends.”

The New York Democrat said that he does not have the power to get the city to apply for a waiver but that he is “personally looking at whether he can make the numbers work.”

“We in New York already have hospitals, we already employ doctors and we employ nurses. We have a lot of uninsured people. … [Setting up] the exchanges is the one piece of the puzzle that would be difficult for us to do,” he said. “I’m just looking internally to whether the city can save money and have more control over its own destiny.

Weiner is slated to hold at least five events on the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and has been one of the most outspoken Democratic supporters of the law.

BOTTOM LINE:  Yes, Anthony Weiner is now investigating a 'Weiner Waiver' exempting New York from ObamaCare to allow the city to have "more control over its own destiny".  His 'investigation', if successful would be in addition to the growing list of 729 companies + 4 states + 4 new SEIU waivers already approved for 'Waivers' by the Obama Administration.

Don't blame me, I didn't put ANY of these words into his mouth...  He's the plan's biggest supporter, he just doesn't want it affecting him.
It's just the way he is, all Weiner, all the time.

"Anthony, your ride is here!!!"
"Anthony, please move to the back of the bus where you belong.  Thank you sweetheart...."

  3. I saw the actual weeniemobile parked at a motel in Jacksonville FL several years ago. It's real! I actually touched it. Eeeeewwwww.

As I understand the waiver issue, the Feds will give states waivers if they come up with their own plan that provides coverage at least as complete as citizens would receive under Obamacare. Is that a bad thing? I can't understand why. And I can't understand why seeking such a waiver indicates mass disapproval of Obamacare, or why Weiner's talking about them sets him up for ridicule.

    What am I missing?

  4. Grump, your "today I'm grumpy about" preamble reminds me of a blast from the past.

Trouble is, when you go looking for the bad in everything, sometimes you make an ass of yourself in the process. Sen. Proxmire knew a thing or two about that, too.

  5. Grumpy, Not sure if ANYTHING about Weiner is 'perfect' but thanks the same. He is, however, a perfect goon.

SOL4, Reminds me of the song, "Wouldn't you like to be a weiner too?" No, actually I'd prefer to be a Cheese Steak.

Anonymous, Sounds like something out of the Godfather, doesn't it?

  6. Graychin, A couple of things you may be missing:

    1. The Equal Protection Clause "After the Fourteenth Amendment was enacted, the Constitution also protected rights from abridgment by state leaders and governments, even including some rights that arguably were not protected from abridgment by the federal government."

Essentially, if one state is allowed to 'Opt Out' of the Federal ObamaCare legislation, it effectively makes it unenforceable in ALL states. Not to mention that the Law itself has been found to be Constitutional.

But when has anything regarding the Constitution ever been slowed down this administration?

    2. From the Washington Post today: "Along the way, Weiner dismissed the Supreme Court, which he expects will rule the law unconstitutional, as “a corporate-dominated wing of the Republican Party.” He disparaged the Congressional Budget Office as “propeller-heads,” and he accused GOP presidential candidates of “overtly lying.” Even White House officials Jack Lew and Gene Sperling made Weiner boil because they lack “a competing narrative” in the budget debate."

This guy's a nut. I live in New York. I know nuts when I hear / see them. He deserves public ridicule for trying to have it both ways. He says that he 'Is the Bill' and now he wants to be exempt from the 'Bill' ('Law' as I type this)

    3. Grumpy is NO 'ass'.

On the other hand, I am a cow. I'm responsible for the above post - just for clarification.

  7. http://thegreatspot.wordpress.com/ is Greychins website, a mutual friend, and part time agitator suggested we introduce oursleves to each other.

I went first, he was using the MaCartyism line about King.. Funny I didn't feel any need to call anyone an Ass, I guess name calling is just in the liberal nature.

  8. Did I call the Grump an ass? I don't think so. All I said was: "Trouble is, when you go looking for the bad in everything, sometimes you make an ass of yourself in the process." Then I referred to Sen. Proxmire, who I DO believe was an ass.

    Touchy, touchy.

You guys don't like Weiner, so your most blistering criticism is repeatedly making fun of his name? Really insightful commentary!

(Weiner merely means someone from the city of Wein, the German language name for Vienna. It's also how certain sausages got their names.)

The real reason you don't like Weiner is that he is trying to step into the shoes of the (electorally) late, great Alan Grayson. "Conservatives" love to dish out mockery (especially of the fifth-grade variety like mocking names like Weiner), but they sure can't take it.

Mike Kane: So you're another pseudo-scholar of the 14th Amendment? Please spare me. The last "conservative" I argued with about the 14th believed that illegal immigrants aren't "persons" as the term is used in the 14th. Bizarre!

Is Michelle Bachmann saner than Weiner? Really? I hear she's getting ready to run for president. Of the United States!

So here I am again, the skunk at the garden party. You guys will be better off without me here - and a lot happier if you stay inside your "conservative" bubble without someone like me to pop it.

    Who touched my ass?

  13. Grumpy, the one year anniversary of the infamous "Pool Hall" incident is coming up and she is still stalking me. If you see her please don't bring up my name. Tell her I got run over by a Waste Management Truck and died.

Thank you. The Greatful Dead S.O.L.

  14. SOL, I remember you volunteering for something, at least she only accepted part of your offer, or she'd really be after you.

I've only been back in there a couple times since, the burgers aren't bad..

  15. Graychin, You KNOW that having a guy named 'Weiner' ('er' of 'Wein') is just to appropriate not to mention. Remember "Ronnie Ray-Gun"? They say that turn about is fair play, so yeah, I'll play.

If Anthony's name was Tony Smith he'd still be an idiot. He makes irrational Progressive Liberal Democrats look mainstream. Perhaps this is his reason for 'being'?

No pseudo-scholar here, just a guy with an opinion about stuff. I could keep my opinions to myself, but last time I did we ended up with a President who's favorite song is from the Lion King, "I just can't wait to be king"... Watch, listen, then see if it fits or not: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGIoRUlzE2Q

"Oh, I just can't wait to be king!
    Everybody look left
    Everybody look right
    Everywhere you look I'm--
    Standing in the spotlight"

Problem with standing in the spotlight is that everyone sees you for what / who you are.

The American people saw them for who they are... There are fewer of 'them' as a result.

By all means, stick around, comment, and keep everyone here honest. There may even be somethings we agree on. I'm not sure about your 'popping our Conservative Bubble'; I personally haven't been 'popped' in years. Although, this probably isn't something to brag about.
