Imagine John Ashcroft...or Holder with this power?

"On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a bill that would give the Attorney General the right to shut down websites with a court order if copyright infringement is deemed “central to the activity” of the site — regardless if the website has actually committed a crime. The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) is among the most draconian laws ever considered to combat digital piracy, and contains what some have called the “nuclear option,” which would essentially allow the Attorney General to turn suspected websites “off.”

  1. The Government is looking for any way they can find to gain a foothold that will allow them to start regulating the Internet..

    As we've all learned, once a law about anything gets passed someone figure out a reason to expand it, just a little at first but then someone see a reason to expand on the expansion.

    Seatbelt laws are a great example, they started as a secondary offense, you had to be pulled over for something else to get a ticket.

    Now some states set up roadside checkpoints, cars are stopped and a police officer looks in side the car to make sure everyone is belted properly.. and no one is hiding unsecured on the floor.
